Hello.

My name is Ben Blakey, and this is my blog, Step Onto Liquid.

I started blogging in 2005 as I transitioned from high school to college.  “Step Onto Liquid” is really a fusion of a biblical event and a surfing video.  One summer while I was in high school, I attended a camp that had the theme “Walk on Water.”  Shortly after I returned home, I rented a surfing video called “Step Into Liquid.”  It did not take me long to put these two together.  “Step Onto Liquid” was born.

Step onto liquid basically means live by faith.  In the Gospel accounts, Jesus called Peter to walk on the water of a stormy sea.  Now I’m not saying that you should go out into the backyard and try and walk across the pool.  Plan on getting wet if you try.  I am saying that the Christian is called to live by faith in the midst of the stormy sea of life.  We must live by faith in the Lord and what he has revealed to us through his word–the Bible.  We must believe the gospel–Jesus Christ died and rose again to save sinners like you and me.  This is the idea behind “Step Onto Liquid.”

I am currently the Worship Pastor at Compass Bible Church in Aliso Viejo, California. Obviously, I haven’t been the most consistent blogger over the past several years, but a little is better than nothing, right?

 This is my blog.  Enjoy.

    Hi Ben,

My name is Lucy Matthews. I live in Winston-Salem, NC and just somehow stumbled upon your blog. Actually to say that it was an accident would be to discredit the way God brings new things into our lives, so by the will of God I found your blog. I was searching for the lyrics to Matt Redman’s song “Shine”, and when I typed them in, your blog was the first thing to come up on the search list. So then I naturally began reading the blog, trying to find the words to the song, and was captured by your experiences. My best friend has been talking about traveling to Jerusalem for awhile now, we all just seem to be so unsure of college plans for next year and the Lord’s will in our lives. I was left in awe of the Lord at seeing your pictures and reading about your experiences.

I know absolutely nothing really about you, except that we belong to the same wonderful family of Christ, but wondered if you might tell me more about the college you go to and your time in Israel.

I am left speechless at the way our God works, his majesty and unfailing love. There is no doubt that finding your blog was his way of opening new doors, and spreading his word. Praise to be Him for his faithfullness. I am glad to see the joy you find in him and would certainly love to hear more about your experiences.

May God bless your life in enormous ways this day.

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32

    In Christ Alone,
    Lucy

    Praise be to God.
